TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD

Changing your campsite daily to follow wildlife, eating under the open sky, falling asleep to wildebeest sounds and visiting remote areas. If this sounds like your idea of a good time, then a wild safari may be just what you’re after. If you’re not afraid to let go of luxuries, put up your own tent and take part in challenging activities, a wild safari will give you the opportunity to get to know Africa (and often yourself and your co-travelers) best. By stepping out of your comfort zone, experiencing something new, adding some adventure to your trip and broadening your horizons, these types of safaris tend to give you the most authentic experience.

Types of accommodations:

Light mobile tented camps

Light means mobile, which means you travel with a private vehicle from public camp site to public camp site daily with a driver/guide.

These large Eureka tents accommodate up to 2 people. Expect bucket showers, short drop latrines with that also comes perks such as dining under the stars (there are no dining rooms) and getting the most up close and personal access to the wildlife. This type of accommodation probably isn’t for every body, but for those who enjoy a truly authentic bush experience, it’s heaven.

Private mobile tented camps

You also have the option of staying in private mobile tented camps that move with you on your safari. It’s one of the more exclusive ways to experience a safari. The camp gives you real flexibility, allowing you to move every couple of days at your own pace depending on the activity you chose to do. The camp is private: just for you with a small professional crew, hot showers, drinks around the fire and three course meals.

Permanent luxury tent and lodges

A “wild” safari can also be experienced with slightly more luxury. Permanent luxury tents and lodges are a good option for those looking for more comfort but who still want to be in the wilderness. These often offer crisp sheets, warm bucket showers, thick towels, luxury settings with chandeliers and in the case of the luxury tents, a lodge where meals are served. There are often other extras such as a pool and private butler.

All of these accommodations provide a front row seat at a private wilderness experience.

Featured highlights:

Game watching

Tanzania has the highest concentration of wildlife in Africa. During the dry season (December-March) is the best time to observe wildebeest: animals are easier to spot as they concentrate around the water holes when the weather gets dry.

The great migration

The Serengeti is the setting for the world’s greatest wildlife spectacle with over 1.5 million animals moving through the plains during the mass migration. To see the mass migration move from Kenya into the Serengeti, the time to go is in December, January, February, and March. (* Please check with us before planning your trip, as climate changes sometimes trigger changes in the timing of the migration).
