Tanzania’s most prized possession is its vast array of natural and cultural resources. To preserve its rich and diversified natural heritage, Tanzania has identified a protected area that includes about 28 percent of its total land area. The network comprises the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, 12 national parks, 31 game reserves, and 38 game controlled areas. In these protected areas, deforestation, unsustainable mining activities, hunting, fishing, unplanned human settlement developments and more harmful activities are prohibited.
