4 Day Great Migration Calving Season in Ndutu

OVERVIEW

This 4days Calving safari is designed specifically to focus on and to increase your chance to see the great wildebeest migration where thousands of young wildebeest take their first steps in the southern plains of Serengeti. Between the months of December to March you will witness thousands of wildebeest across the plains grazing on the short grass plains. Predator action is at its peak with great sightings of cheetah, lion, hyena and leopard and a very good chance to see adrenalin packed kills.

Day 1: Welcome - arrival

After arriving at the airport our representative and an experienced driver guides, will meet and greet you, then he will escort you to Arusha at your accommodation for relaxing and preparing yourself for the exciting moment ahead. If the weather allows you will be welcomed with a great view of Mount Meru and the shy girl, Mount Kilimanjaro. Get an opportunity for adds-on activities in Arusha like Lake Duluti Canoeing, city tour, Yoga Classes, Coffee tour, walking tours, horse riding etc. (Activity supplement applies).

Day 2: Drive to Ndutu

Wake up for the breakfast in your accommodation, later you will proceed with the game to Ndutu area, situated in the Ngorongoro conservation area, part of the southern Serengeti eco-system. The area is famed for its short plain grass which is particullary rich in nutrients that sustains the migratory animals and whilst they have babies. Lake Ndutu is alkaline, like most of the other Rift lakes, however, the water is still drinkable and used by a wide array of local wildlife. The majority of the wildebeest migration can normally be found on the short-grass plains from December to April. The area is usually heavily populated with elephant, birds and resident game. Dinner and overnight will be at your accommodation.

Day 3: Enjoy the Great game drive in this Calving area

Another day in the southern plains of Serengeti. Today you get another chance to view the beautiful wildlife spectacle. The range to the different habitats that include swamps, woodland, soda lakes and the world-famous Serengeti grass plains. See great herds of wildebeest and zebras. Along with the river crossings, this is a real highlight of the wildebeest’s journey and a fabulous time to see the herds congregate on the dramatic sweeping plains of the south. You will see the big herds all together as they always come south for calving season. Later you will proceed to Ngorongoro Conservancy, arriving at the edge of the crater Ngorongoro you will have your first foretaste of what awaits you the following day- glistening streams, open grassland and infinite number of animals.

Day 4: Ngorongoro crater

After breakfast you will continue with the game heading to Ngorongoro Crater for game viewing on its floor. Ngorongoro crater is a UNESCO world heritage site formed million years ago that inhabits more than 25,000 resident animals. Almost every East African Savannah animal species can be spotted in the grass grasslands and acacia forests including the “Big Five” (rhino, elephant, buffalo, lion, and leopard). Other animals around this crater floor includes wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and more than 500 bird species are recorded in this area. If luck you might catch a glimpse of the endangered black rhino through the grass.

Later, you will ascend the crater and head back to Arusha for your departure, then proceed to the airport for departure.
