The off-peak season

This “off” season in Tanzania can be a very good time for a Safari. The lodges are less crowded and the game reserves have as much game as normal, in addition to the obvious perk of less expensive airfare and lodge rates at this time.

Migration

By July, the wildebeest have begun the journey from the Serengeti plains towards the plains of the Masai Mara. Being in the reserve between August and September when the wildebeest have arrived is an unforgettable experience. The number and variety of species are impressive. At this time, it is common to see zebras, giraffes, buffalos, elephants, hyenas, lions, elands and gazelles all at once. The mass of animals remains on the Masai Mara until October or November.

Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro

One of best time to go to Tanzania for climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro is from July to October (from January to March is also a good time). Please note that it is not advisable to go climbing during the rainy season (from March to May and in November).
